My current work focuses on two separate areas: firstly, a response to the energy and optimism of contemporary India (which I visited for the first time last year) and the other on work that celebrates my Civil Partnership and honeymoon, spent in The Hamptons last summer.
'The India series' (to be shown as a solo show at the Curwen Gallery in May 2008) looks at the interplay of historical, architectural and cultural forms (from the structures of palaces and courtyards to details of design) and juxtaposes the dynamics of street colour and directness within the traditions of Indian Miniature painting: a timeless past to a confident now.
' The Hamptons series' delights in the simple structure of herbaceous planting, particularly those that shine in the shade. |
